Experience the Revamped Legendary Journey: A Complimentary Trial for DQ7 Reimagined Arrives Shortly.

Enthusiasts anticipating the arrival of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined won't have to wait too much longer. An exciting playable preview will become available on Jan. 7, granting a substantial glimpse into the game's initial chapters. Notably, all save data made within this demo can be transferred directly into the main game upon its eventual launch.

Beyond Just a Straightforward Remake: A Thorough Reimagining

This title represents a ground-up reimagining of the seminal year 2000 JRPG, initially known as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a distinct departure from recent series re-releases, such as the previously released HD-2D versions, this version embraces a charming three-dimensional visual presentation. Environments are designed to resemble intricate model sets, with party members featuring a whimsical chibi-esque design.

"Taking into account the 3DS port, the story was still exceptionally long. Therefore, we came to a decision that we wanted to streamline the story, [and] craft an experience for today's players."

Significant Mechanical Changes & Modernizations

Square Enix have introduced several changes to streamline the classic experience. These include:

  • Quick Overworld Battles: Similar to contemporary role-playing games, low-level monsters can now be dispatched directly on the field eliminating the need for entering a separate traditional combat sequence.
  • Variable Combat Speed: Players have the option to accelerate battle sequences to rapidly power through simpler encounters.
  • New Vocation System: One completely new job class has been created for this reimagining. Furthermore, characters now have the option to master a secondary job, significantly enhancing strategic possibilities.

Such refinements are designed to tackle one of the original title's most noted criticisms: its considerable length. That initial main quest was known to require over 100 hours to finish. This reimagined edition has been specifically structured to improve progression and cut down on any repetition.

The complete game, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, is then set to arrive on Feb. 5, 2026. The title will be available on a wide selection of systems, such as Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
