No McKenna Celtic FC Talks as Bellamy Pledges to Wales

Both are being considered with the manager's job at the Premiership title holders following the former manager's resignation on the start of the week.

McKenna's Stance on Celtic

McKenna described the Glasgow giants as "a really big football club" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "extensive rebuilding" with the Championship side.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Ipswich in 2021 and led them to the English top flight with back-to-back promotions, but they managed only four games last campaign as they were demoted back to the Championship and they presently occupy twelfth place in the Championship.

"There have been any of those discussions," the English capital native ex- Irish young player said when questioned about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"This isn't a matter I have given any thought to, or where any part of my focus is this week.

"I possess a unique position here at a remarkable club. And we're at a really important stage of the campaign. Anything external hasn't reached my radar."

Background and Agreement Aspects

Reports indicate that McKenna would be willing to talk to Celtic given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when asked about those. "I don't think all people has to go around and announce what they were, but of course it's a massive football club."

McKenna signed a fresh multi-year deal in last year and was asked about his alleged buyout clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are things," he responded. "I'm unaware what my specific terms are and, if I did, I wouldn't tell you anyway!

"I tackle this role like I will remain Ipswich manager indefinitely. I understand that's not always going to be the case, but I'll always give maximum effort as while I am here."

The Welsh Coach's Situation

The former striker represented the Hoops on temporary transfer from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Welsh forward is minded to complete the ongoing global tournament campaign, a position that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from assuming the Glasgow position.

The Welsh squad are presently third in their qualifying group behind group toppers Belgium and runners-up North Macedonia.

Wins over Liechtenstein and their rivals in next month would book their place in the final qualifying round, but they are all but guaranteed of making those, thanks to a productive European competition campaign, even if they fail to finish as their group runners-up.

Given his present position, the Wales manager, whose agreement concludes after Euro 2028, would be unavailable until after the play-offs at the earliest.
