Rob Edwards and O'Neil are two of the initial names under consideration to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was dismissed on the weekend following the team's ten-game winless start to the Premier League season.

Furthermore both candidates - each of whom have historic associations to the club - are among the options to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

The manager is currently at another club, which would pose a possible obstacle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the former Luton head coach - who made more than 100 of games for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a leading candidate for the position.

The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the Wolves directors as they begin the search of appointing a new manager.

O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise candidate, although he would be a shock appointment given he was sacked by the club in December last year.

The former West Ham United midfielder is out of work which means the club would not be required to pay any buyout fee.
