Heavy rains over the last seven days have compounded the extremely difficult situation of the many hundreds of thousands of displaced residents in the Gaza Strip, according to relief groups.
A spokesman detailed the previous night's conditions as "horrendous", with downpours so heavy that as much as 15cm (6in) of water was seen on the streets.
"The recent weather was really horrendous for the people. The heavy rains were so intense... And the gales were so forceful," stated the spokesperson.
Officials express grave worry that children residing in makeshift shelters in damp garments will fall victim to hypothermia and other illnesses.
Medical officials have confirmed that one baby has passed away from exposure and at least 11 other people have been killed in structural failures due to the severe weather.
Additional accounts indicate a increased fatality count. Officials reported that multiple residential buildings had fully given way and dozens had collapsed partially.
Agencies have escalated shipments of tarpaulins, warm covers and clothes since the ceasefire began, but they have said there is still not enough aid getting in.
"Officials are working relentlessly to bring in that aid and to allocate it, but the size of the requirements is so immense that we are faced with a great number of families and minors who are truly enduring hardship nightly," stated one official.
The next stage of the truce involves plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with future administration, the withdrawal of military forces, and other conditions.
Aid organizations have underscored the imperative for "expanded and ongoing humanitarian assistance to meet pressing and ongoing requirements."
The war was triggered by an attack in late 2023. Following military operations have led to a significant number of lives lost in the area, as per medical reports.
